Dark Universe was first published over 40 years ago and is truly an unknown classic which should be read. In summary, it concerns a group of people living in a series of underground tunnels, who have survived nuclear war. Underground for many generations, all sources of light have gone from their world. They "see" their world through the use of sound. Their world changes as their source of food begins to dry up, people begin to vanish, taken by "monsters" and the monsters leave sound which cannot be heard. The author does a great job of describing a world without sight. where sound and smell are used to find the way around a world. The novel - as most novels written at that time, is fairly short but is well worth your time and effort to read. His prose is clear and easy to read. My only complaint is that this book was cut slightly off making the cover and pages slightly angled. This is the reason I did not give the novel five stars. Again, well worth your money and time.
