I was originally hooked by Lyons's medical thrillers, but this one hits even more solidly on a human level everyone can relate to. It's natural to want closure in the case of a death, especially for a beloved husband and young son, but though Sarah is able to witness the execution of the deathrow inmate associated with her family's murders, the killer withholds the information she needs to lay them to rest. He dies without revealing where the bodies are. Why? Well, the reader soon learns there's a "snake in the house", one that has Sarah completely fooled. I traveled her journey in this book, gasped with her dangers, and cried with her pain. I cheered her up and on at every turn. This is a female protagonist we can all root for. It kept me reading even when I had to fight to keep my eyes open late into the night. I never want to live Sarah's journey, but I'm certainly happy I read it.
