Preface to the Third Edition It is nearly a decade since the publication of the Second Edition of this text-reference book authored by me and needs a revision. No significant developments have taken place in the basic theory and principles of e.h.v. transmission engineering, except for increase in transmission-voltage levels, cables, magnitudes of power-handling capabilities, as well as of course the cost of equipment and lines. But two problems that need mentioning are: (1) harmonics injected into the system by modern extensive use and developments in Static VAR systems which have an effect on control and communication systems and (2) effect on human health due to magnetic fields in the vicinity of the e.h.v. transmission line corridor. The first one of these is a very advanced topic and cannot be included in a first text on e.h.v. transmission engineering, as well as several other topics of a research nature fit for graduate-level theses and dissertations. The second topic is considered important enough from epidemiological point of view to necessitate elaboration. Thus a new addition has been made to Chapter 7 under the title: Magnetic Field Effects of E.H.V. Lines. Since the date of publication of the first edition, the I.E.E.E. in New York has thought it fit to introduce an additional transactions called I.E.E.E. Transactions on Power Delivery. The author has expanded the list of references at the end of the text to include titles of significant technical papers pertaining to transmission practice. The author wishes to acknowledge the encouragement received from Sri. V.R. Damodaran, Production Editor, New Age International (P) Ltd., for revising this text-reference book and preparation of the Third Edition.

This book presents the configuration space method for computer-aided design of mechanisms with changing part contacts. Configuration space is a complete and compact geometric representation of part motions and part interactions that supports the core mechanism design tasks of analysis, synthesis, and tolerancing. It will help designers detect and correct design flaws and unexpected kinematic behaviors, as demonstrated in the book's four case studies taken from industry. After presenting the configuration space framework and algorithms for mechanism kinematics, the authors describe algorithms for kinematic analysis, tolerancing, and synthesis based on configuration spaces. The case studies follow, illustrating the application of the configuration space method to the analysis and design of automotive, micro-mechanical, and optical mechanisms. Appendixes offer a catalog of higher-pair mechanisms and a description of HIPAIR, an open source C++ mechanical design system that implements some of the configuration space methods described in the book, including configuration space visualization and kinematic simulation. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I am an avid reader of all types of fiction, but really enjoy well written Fantasy... and this novel is it. While the storyline is somewhat familiar to avid readers of the genre, the handling of the coming-of-age hero theme is one of the novel's strengths. Specifically, the pacing is quite unlike other standards of the genre, like Jordan, Brooks, or Goodkind; the pacing is brisk, almost thriller-like in its execution. This is a surprising and welcome relief for those of us who sometimes get a bit antsy wading through 600 pages of setup before the story actually begins to rock-n-roll (hello, Jordan, are you listening?!?). I found the characters to be quite likeable, the storyline and plot interesting, and the constant use of magic purely delightful. If you like a lot of magic in your Fantasy, this novel is a MUST READ. I especially liked the dark overtones to the magic. I do have one major criticism, however: excessive use of apostrophies! The overuse of the apostrophies slapped me out of the whole reading experience more than once and made me aware of the fact that I was reading rather than having the story unfold before me. I can't wait until the next volume in the series. Is it fair to compare this author to such genre giants as Jordan, Goodkind, Brooks, et al? Yes, quite fair indeed. Well done.

From these characteristic postmortem findings, it is possible to arrive at a correct diagnosis. The atlas provides 150 coloured photographs and covers a wide spectrum of poultry diseases. For important diseases, several photographs are given so that at no stage their diagnosis is missed. Also, wherever considered appropriate, pictures of live birds showing symptoms of specific diseases are given. In addition, each disease is accompanied by a brief description that highlights its salient features and also records.
